BIS at STC Finland CH show

BOB at Black & White Open show

I have some sad news to tell: Vini has passed away at the age of 13,5 years. Vini was such a character and he left so many lovely memories behind – I am grateful to him for the long life that we had together.

Vini's parents were Lumo and Summa, a special pair that the previous year won BOS and BOB at Crufts. Vini was such a sweet boy, great solid character whose natural authority other scotties in the family did not challenge, not even at the very end. Vini was also a boy who knew what he wanted and was vocal about it. If food delivery was to slow or there was no water in the bowl, he informed about it. It was also him who announced that dogs had been too long outside, others said nothing – I wonder how we cope now. Vini was also a true scottie in that sense that he was stubborn, he knew what he wanted, where he wanted to go and acted like that.

My ball was under the sofa, so I needed to move the sofa..

Vini and I had a grand tour together in Europe in 2009 while I had my sabattical leave. It was the only time when my scotties have been shown in the UK. We also attended European Dog show in Dublin where Vini became BOS and European Winner. Other shows we entered were in Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden and to home we came with titles and BIG1 & BIG2-wins. I have so lovely memories from our journey, a special thanks to fellow competitors at Echt INT show for making us feel so welcome to the show!

The journey was not only about shows, it was also about people. I am very grateful for the help I received when Vini was attacked by another dog at a camping site in Germany. Many of you helped us from Finland, UK, Italy and the help was invaluable for me while travelling alone with Vini. We also met old and new friends during the journey. I have lovely memories of sitting at dinner tables and chatting with people who have the same interests and with whom you can laugh while dogs were running around – thank you my friends in the UK and Italy!

Even though Vini is gone, he will be living in his babies. I always will remember the STC Finland's show when I was approached by a lady asking if Vini was the father of his scottie - and he was, so much alike! Some of his babies are not with us any more, but many of them are and owners can recognise Vini's features – for better or worse.

Year 2016 was very special to us!

Vincent (FI & SE CH NORDW-15 SEW-16 W-16 QUAINT QUINCENT) did extremely well at shows. He was BOB at 10 shows out of the 14 he was entered. At two international shows he was Best Terrier (BOG1), in Lahti (April 2016) and in Helsinki (Dec 2016).

Vincent and Hilde did a super job also at Stockholm Winner Show in Sweden (Dec 2016). Vincent was BOB, BOG1 and BIS3.

Thank you to breed, group and BIS judges: Jeff Horswell, Goran Gladic, Neofytou Erodotos, Monika Knutsson-Hall, Svend Lovenkjaer, Malgorzata Supronowicz, Wim Wellens, Martin Phillips, Ronald Irving, Birgitta Hasselgren, Maite Gonzalbo Lorenzo, Knut Sigurd Wilberg and Luis Pinto Teixeira.

Vincent's litter sister FI & SE CH W-16 QUAINT QLUSIVE ZANY did also so well at shows. She attended only five shows in Finland last year and gained BOB at the Scottish Terrier Club Ch show under breed specialist judge Lillian Lleton, BOB and BOG1 at Lahti int show in October under another breed specialist Marja Talvitie, at two other shows she was BOS when Vincent was BOB.

Vincent's dad C.I.B NORD FI SE NO EE CH BERRYBREEZE DADDY COOL gained his C.I.B, NORD & EE & SE titles last year. He also mated a litter with Raglan Ready to Smile.

All this would not have been possible without clever breeders Reijo Portala (kennel Quaint) and Clair Chapman (kennel Berrybreeze). A special thank goes to Vincent's brilliant handler Hilde Fredriksson!

Highlights of the year 2015

We have had a fabulous year and we did create some wonderful memories! My boys attended only few shows in Finland (Luca 4 and Vincent 3) but with very good results. Vincent was BOB in all shows he attended last year.

At the Scottish Terrier Club of Finland's championship show in August Vincent (Quaint Quincent) was BOB and became Finnish champion at his 5th show ever. Thank you judge Veli-Pekka Kumpumäki, Finland.

In September Luca (Berrybreeze Daddy Cool) became NO Ch in Norway at the European Winner show under judge Liz Cartledge, UK.

Vincent attended Winner2015 show in Sweden In December and was BOB and BIG3 and became SE CH. Thank you to judges Siv Jernhake, Sweden (breed judge) and Peter Lauber, Switzerland (group judge).

The latest achievement for my boys was when Luca became Best Progeny Scottie 2015. This was achieved by his progeny doing so well at shows. Thank you Gilmoore’s Diesel Design, Gilmoore’s Dancing In The Dark, Quaint Quincent, Quaint Qlusive Zany and last but not least Scottie of the year 2015 Rhum Emporio Armani!

Finnish scottie specialty July 20th, 2013

It is about time to continue the blog. Who could believe that already more than a year has past since my last post. Since then our family has grown. Vincent, the son of Luca, has moved in. The official name of Vincent is Quaint Quincent. Having puppy at home makes you think carefully where you put your shoes or socks, otherwise you will eventually find them elsewhere - reshaped. Nevertheless, he is such a charmer! With a puppy you learn every day something not only from the puppy, but also from yourself and your older dogs.

The Scottish Terrier Club of Finland had the main event of the year, the official club show, on the 20th of July. The previous days were a bit rainy, so we were afraid of more rain for Saturday. But no, the whole Saturday was warm and sunny, in the afternoon even too hot for the dogs. We were pleased to have breed specialist and scottie breeder herself Alison Kenny from the UK (Kennel Millingford) to judge our show.

The total entry was 79 scotties (only 1 absent), six puppies and 73 adult scotties. The winner of the puppy classes and BIS-puppy was lovely black bitch Serein Ranzania from the minor puppy class, owned by the breeder. Ranzania's litter sister Serein Robinia received also honour prize and was placed 2nd after her sister. BOS-puppy was not chosen since no male puppy received honour prize.

My own boys were entered in open and champion classes. Luca (Berrybreeze Daddy Cool) did very well: he won the open class and was placed 4th in the best male competition with resCC. Vini (C.I.B. NORD&FI&SE&IE&NO CH EUW-09 Brueik Summa Creation) did also well, he was valued as excellent in quality class and was placed among six in champion class. Best male was C.I.B. FI&SE&NO&NORD CH Sirkiss Sleight Of Hand, he was at the end of the show given also the BIS-trophy. The second in best male competion with CC was Flippix Me And My Shadow from junior class, third was Sirkiss Solid As A Rock and fourth Luca.

Best bitch and BOS was C.I.B. FI&EE CH EEJV-09 Bartos Ultra Violet from champion class, 2nd (FI CH Gilmoore's Zsa-Zsa Kissing-Kin ) and 3rd (FI CH Misting's One Shot) places went to champion class bitches and 4th place with CC to Perhaps Standing Ovation from open class.

Best veteran was multi CH Raglan Rufus, best breeder class came from kennel Sirkiss and best progeny class was produced by BIS-winner Sirkiss Sleight Of Hand. Full results on club's web site.

Black & White Show 2011

On Saturday the 5th of November scotties and westies competed for the BIS of these two beautiful breeds. It was the Westie Club's turn to organise the show and westie people did it very well, as usual. Thank you to the organisers!

Luca attended the show and became BOB-junior and 4th best male. Vini's daughter Serein Elsholtzia was BOS-junior. The best scottie and BIS was the black bitch Bartos Ultra Violet  and BOS was the black dog Quaint O'My Jacquot. The judge was Tina Deipenbrock from kennel vom Deipen Brook, Germany.

Vini was this time enjoying the show as a tourist. The show was in an agility hall and Vini had the opportunity to try his favourite obstacle, dogwalk. He was pleased to switch the show ring to dogwalk.

The critiques from the show are on the   website of the Scottish Terrier Club of Finland  (http://www.skotlanninterrieri.fi/en/critiques/14-arvostelut-2011/71-arvostelut-black-a-white-2011.html)

Lovely day at seaside

It was a cool, windy but dry and sunny autumn day and we had a lovely walk on the Espoo’s Waterfront Walkway. It is a 35 km's path  along the seaside of Baltic Sea (http://english.espoo.fi/default.asp?path=32373;37337;45340;36896;97002).

Luca and Vini enjoyed paths and new smells.

Back from Paris

We are back at home from our 3 week's journey to dog shows in Germany and France.

After a lazy ferry journey from Helsinki, Finland to Travemünde, Germany we drove to Sondershausen where it was a two day's show for terriers (2.-3.7.2011). The judge for scotties on the first day was Ms. T Deres Tyagunova from Russia and she had 12 scotties to judge. On the 2nd day the judge was Mr. H. Grüttner from Germany and he had 11 scotties to judge. Luca received VV1 at boths shows which as far as I understand means 'very promising'. Vini's result from the shows was 2 x 'excellent', 2 x RVDH and 1 x RCAC. The full results are on the web pages of the Scottish Terrier Association.

The judging system in Germany was a bit confusing for me. During the show I had no idea if dogs had received excellent or very good and which dogs had received VDH or CAC. Even now I have no idea what is the difference between VDH and CAC. After the judging you could copy the results from the board if ring steward had written them down. I have been working as a ring stewardess in Finland for ages now and have complained about ribbons that are given to exhibitors showing the quality of an exhibit (red = excellent, blue = very good,  yellow = good etc.) Now I can see the value of our system for the public.

After Germany we headed toward Paris and World Winner Dog Show. In Paris we met our dear friends Clair and Connor. First task was to find the temporary camping site at the show which required us to stop some locals and ask for advice. After driving here and there we found the place but were disappointed by the  services offered. Last year I was camping at WWDS in Denmark and arrangements were excellent.

On Thursday (CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE) we showed under Mme Sylvie Desserne from France. Luca was 4th in his class with 'very good' and Vini was not placed but received 'excellent'. On Friday (MONDIALE) judge was M. Kenneth Edh from Sweden. Luca was 2nd in his class with 'excellent' and Vini received 'excellent' but was not placed. Full results are here.

Visiting dog shows abroad is such a pleasure because of having the opportunity to meet scotties and scottie people. It is always interesting to see scotties in other countries and compare the quality in Finland with them. Big shows like world dog shows give an opportunity to see a lot of scotties at the same show. It was again so nice to reconnect with other scottie owners and breeders from all over the Europe.

I would also like to thank my handlers for showing my boys so beautifully in Paris: Hilde Fredriksson (who won the junior handling competition in Paris on Sunday and became world champion!), Clair Chapman, Reijo Portala and Jouni Perttula.

A hot day at Pieksämäki show

We had a hilarious day at Pieksämäki show - thank you all fellow competitors for such a pleasant day! It was a very hot day but we had a nice shadow to sit in. Vini was the second best dog, Luca was just experiencing his first official dog show as a tourist and had a good time with other dogs.

Vini's girls did well at the show: Serein Elsholtzia (owned by Mervi Mäkipää) was BOB-puppy and Quaint Nuez Moscado (owned by Reijo Portala) was BOS. The judge was Birgitta Hasselgren from Sweden. Congratulations also to Siru and Erkka for BOB and BIG3!
